South Australia Treasurer silent on tax relief PDF Print E-mail

South Australian Treasurer Kevin Foley is maintaining his silence on whether he will give any tax relief in the May state Budget, reports ABC News Online.
The Government is facing mounting criticism over the amount of land tax it levies, fuelled by rising property values.

Mr Foley concedes he is under pressure from members of his own party over the land tax returns but is unapologetic about the revenue stream.

"The benefit that they have received in terms of a humungous, or in some cases, other areas a substantial increase in capital value has to be put into the picture," he said.

"But ultimately, the community want more police, we're giving them 200 more police, they want more teachers, we're putting more teachers into our schools, and our health system is ever in need of more money.

"Now, we have to pay for that."
