Florida land values 'sort of crazy' PDF Print E-mail

As the rubble and ruin Hurricane Charley left behind five months ago is cleared away in Charlotte County, Florida, a new reality emerges.
"Property values and land values have gone sort of crazy in the city," said David Hennis, the city community development director.

"What it's [the hurricane] given us the opportunity to do is huge urban renewal programs with someone else paying for it, on a much-advanced time scale," Bob Hebert, Charlotte County's new director of recovery, said.

Hebert recalls receiving calls, some in the middle of the night, mere days after Charley hit Aug. 13. They came from developers all over the country, looking to buy big chunks of available land.
