The following from The Mail on Sunday 14th November 2004 illustrates the value that communities add to property prices.
This value should belong to the community so that we can all enjoy it. Hence the need to tax land values in lieu of other taxes. Chelsea-by-the-Sea is now the nickname of Burnham Market on the Norfolk Coast according to the paper. The reason - it has a lovely village green surrounded by Georgian Houses and cottages. It also has butchers, fishmongers, grocers and bakers, plus a fish restaurant, hotel, flower shop, delicatessen and art galleries. As the paper says the inhabitants have money and wish to spend it within walking distance of their homes. The result houses there are not cheap.

Go North. Manchester is the place to live. It has a lot going for it. A vibrant night life with late running public transport plus the Metrolink tram service. Art Galleries and theatres. Bars and restaurants , two Premier League football sides and the Lancashire Cricket team are just some of the attractions says the "Mail" to buying property in Manchester.

Leafy Southgate in North London is still much in demand as a place to live. It has been ever since the arrival of the Piccadilly underground line in the thirties. Brown field sites with easy access to the listed Tube station at Southgate Circus are says the "Mail" being snapped up by developers. In addition there are good local rail services to Kings Cross and Moorgate. Add on all the shops, restaurants and good schools, property there is much in demand.

Ideal Oxted in Surrey says the paper is a good place to live. "Families love it for its excellent schools and open spaces." It also has a 35 minute rail service to London ’s Victoria Station.

Goodbye Essex, Hello Estonia. According to the "Mail" a property developer is selling up in Essex to become a landlord in Tallinn the capital of Estonia. Property prices there says the paper are booming since Estonia joined the EU last May. Financial institutions and companies are now moving in creating a demand for property. The fact that Estonia has a highly educated and skilled workforce and Tallinn is a beautiful city popular with Tourists are further reasons why property prices there are expected to rise further.
